Welcome to Brain Dead And Loving It!



This space on the web will be my own personal haunt where I will share my opinion on a variety of topics, but mainly films.

I have been fascinated by the seventh art ever since I saw FRANKENSTEIN CONQUERS THE WORLD projected on the wall of my elementary school's Gymnasium on a Saturday evening. I must have been 6 years old, and seeing a film that was larger than life in so many ways, from the projection format (so much larger than our tiny TV at home), to the subject matter (A deformed child grows up to humongous proportion and ends up fighting a giant monster) basically shaped my brain in what it is today. For better or for worse. It started a lifelong love affair with cinema, with a particular affinity for the films of the imaginary.



I grew up to be a video editor who has worked for a few festivals, including the Fantasia Film Festival and the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal, Québec, as well as editing a few features and shorts. Some of my work is compiled here.

I am just going to add  my voice into the cacophonous choir of opinions that permeates the internet, and with some luck, some readers will find a certain satisfaction in reading my words.

There is no denying that working for B-Movie producer Roger Corman was often a step towards a lasting career in cinema. Many modern legends of the silver screen had cut their teeth honing their skills within his low-budget limitations, and moved on to star in or direct blockbusters far removed from those humble origins. Before Home Video Part 2: The Comics / STEPHEN BISSETTE INTERVIEW

  In the first part of this series, we looked into the practice and publications of Photo-novels and fumetti, (along with an interview with Photo-novel giant Richard J. Anobile ) which were one of the best ways to recapture the experience of watching a film at a time where owning your own copy wasn't an option, and you had to hunt down listings at the repertory theaters and in the TV Guide for chances to see your favorite films. Movie soundtracks also provided an interesting compromise, but the narrative remains missing, and of course, the all-too-essential visuals. The music can of course evoke beautifully the film it was composed for, and bring back fond memories of the experience, but it remains a completely different way to relive a movie. Combining  reading a Photo-novel version of a film with its music soundtrack can be, however, an oddly satisfying, yet frustrating experience, as the mood can be re-created, but the music may not follow the pace of reading. ...
